I Heart You

After last weeks torrid time with crafting, I have finally managed to get back on track and created two cards for the oodles of love themed challenges taking place.

Now my 'heart' supplies are at a bare minimum but I did find two dies in my Lawn Fawn Snow Days set, OK they are a little smaller than I would have liked so I really had to dig deep for a way to make one teeny weeny and one not so teeny weeny heart fill a card blank.

This design came about by accident after I dropped a tray of bits and bobs on the floor and noticed a bag of chipboard letters with all the dodgy ones still left.  Much to my amazement I did find an I and U and that was the basis for the card.  I coloured them black, die cut the hearts out - added a bit of wink on the bigger heart and a gem.  I used my rectangle die to emboss three stitched lines for the trio of little hearts.  I also used my Sharpie pen trick for the fake matt, it saves me ever buying coloured cardstock and I think it really gives the illusion of another layer.

I decided to do an Anniversary card for the my second choice.  I made an ombre background and didn't really like it but decided if I cut out the hearts down one side and pop it behind, it might just look better and what do you know, it did so I ran with it.  I did add a few paint splatters and decided to keep the two red hearts as positives to represent the couple.  Stamped the sentiment and added two gems to the start and end of 'Happy' and that folks was me happy with my attempts.

  1. These are brilliant Claire and i think your first card is ingenious the way it came about...made me think I have some chipboard letters somewhere too...why do we never think of the obvious? Love the ombre look in the second one....both great designs. xx

  2. These two cards are genius Claire! I love the happy accident of the first one, makes me think of a man dressed in a black tux coming to the door to pick up his girl with one single red rose. So beautiful! I can't believe you didn't use a black mat either, great illusion! Your second card is very clever too, I love how your ombre look turned out and love the cascading hearts. Two amazing and clever cards for the Twofer challenge! Hugs, Brenda

  10. A delicious Twofer, Claire! Such a wonderfully graphic, bold and striking first card ... fabulous detailing with the embossed lines and single gem ... so stylish! Your anniversary card makes great use of that 'unwanted' ombré ... the colour peeking through the tumble of hearts is gorgeous ... soft, delicate and so romantic! Thanks so much for your visit and lovely words ... and for playing along with us at Twofer! Anita :)

  16. Wow, Claire!! I love your stunning CASlicious cards of love! I keep scrolling back and forth ... I love that one best, no, I love that one best, no ...! I'd say your MOJO juices are flowing just fine! I love how the idea for your first card came from a spill ~ that's when you know you have a true eye for design when you can spot one on the floor!! And thank you for the cool way you did the stitched score lines because I have one of those single stitched dies and had no idea what to do with it! I'm not sure I could make three in a row all perfectly aligned like you, but I appreciate the idea! And your ombre heart anniversary card is so romantic! Again, I love your design thinking of having the two solid red hearts represent the couple! Thank you so much for playing at Twofer Card Challenge #2! Hugs, Darnell
