CASology Guest Designer

Whoop, whoop... a few weeks ago I was chosen as the weekly winner over at CASology and I received a lovely email from Melissa asking if I'd like to be the guest designer for this weeks challenge which until the Autumn is now extended to a fortnightly schedule.

The cue card is Cloud and as I felt 'on top of cloud 9' I decided to use that as my inspiration.

After colouring this little dragon from a Clearly Besotted set multiple times in various colour combinations I decided on a monochrome look.  He's coloured with alcohol markers and fussy cut out so that he sits on Cloud 9.  I have also stencilled some very subtle clouds as a background - so subtle they look invisible ;)

Hugs on Your Birthday

Phew!

Warm enough for everyone here in the UK?... I LOVE IT :)

I've used the sketch from Fusion for todays card.

With heat being very prominent at present I decided on a hot design.  The dragons have been coloured with alcohol markers and highlighted with a white gel pen.  Distress reinkers were used to create the blown effect down the side in Fired Brick and Wild Honey.

The same colours were used to ink the 'hugs' die, clear embossed and matted onto two black layers.  The sentiment is from Avery Elle and to finish I added some sparkle so the flames dance in the sunlight.

Bear Hugs

A super quick card to share today made using a WPlus9 set.

I just couldn't resist popping this inquisitive cub on the 'hugs' die reaching down for all that honey in the hive.  He's been coloured with alcohol markers with a few white gel pen highlights and fussy cut out.

I've added these two extra photos to show a close up of the hive that swings, its attached with white thread between two duplicate hives and to the back of the 'hugs' die.  The bees also have a little bit of Wink on their wings but they're so tiny its impossible to see unless the sunlight catches the card.

Congrats on your 2018 Graduation

I've finally got round to making my sons Graduation card which is taking place next month, very excited.

The photo inspiration at Fusion is a bookcase containing lovely bright primary colours and I'm going to apologise now for toning it down.  I wanted the stack of books to look like the old leather bound vintage ones you find in historical library buildings so fingers crossed its still OK to enter the challenge with a more muted colour scheme.

The image is by Tim Holtz and called Schoolhouse Blueprints, I rather liked not having an owl waving a scroll or a cute creature wearing a gown and mortar board.  I think this looks more grown up and I know its definitely more my son.

I very roughly coloured the image with Inktense pencils then cut the year out.  The sentiments are from a Hero Arts stamp and die set.  Everything was matted onto black cardstock and the numbers raised with foam tape and that was the fiddly part by far.

Enjoy Your New Home

Since my husband is a huge football fan and as there appears to be only two channels working on the television at the moment, I decided to do a bit of crafting and went straight for this cute toucan from Clearly Besotted.

I used a set called Some Birdie Loves You and picked out the toucan, turned him into a Rainbow Toucan who live in the tropics of Latin America and yes they really do have blue feet, pretty cool :)  I coloured all the images with alcohol pens and used the matching dies.  Behind the toucan are some very subtle clouds making him look like he's in the tree canopy.

The sentiment is from another Clearly Besotted set and I just thought it would make an unusual and fun 'New Home' card.

Have a Delightful Day

Time has come round again to play at Fusion and oh boy was it a challenge... Cupcakes!

Yikes cupcakes, urgh... not happening.

I have tried on numerous occasions to make cards with pretty cupcakes on and I know every time I start it will end up in the bin with a cat that I swear sniggers at me and seems to give me a look of 'you can't handle cupcakes' and damn he's right - I suck at them so bad!

In light of the above I decided on flowers using the colours from the inspiration photo and roughly fused it with the sketch.

I inked up a Clearly Besotted stamp set, white embossed and coloured with Gansai Tambi watercolours and that was pretty much it.  The edges were distressed a little, stamped the sentiment in DewDrop pearlescent orchid and added a bit of Wink to the water so it glistens in the light.

You might be able to catch the sparkle better in this photo.

Caped Cat

I don't mind admitting I'm a bit of a superhero fan as is my husband so I had to purchase the Caped Cuties set from Clearly Besotted and the first to be inked was the cat.

He's coloured with alcohol markers and die cut out, set him to one side while I created his cityscape to be protected at all costs, as superheroes do or maybe he's a supervillian.

I die cut a Spellbinders star into white cardstock, added foam tape to create perspective from the backdrop.  The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn just embossed onto black cardstock in white embossing powder and I added the caped crusader with more foam.  A few highlights were added to the buildings in a silver glitter Sakura gel pen as a reflection from the moon.

Enjoy Your Day

This week I got very messy with string and ink and so did the kitchen together with anything I touched, even the cats bowl didn't escape my inky exploits and that was on the floor... oops!

I'd forgotten how much fun you can have with a length of string covered in ink and then pulling the string out from the cardstock.

I absolutely love the fact you never really know how its going to turn out and from nowhere you get a wonderful graphic looking image, reminds me of  calla lillies.  I kept it simple and just added a red sentiment.

Happy Father's Day

Featuring the utterly adorable Newton from Newtons Book Club.  This is for my step-dad and it just had to be this stamp set because... a) he loves cats and b) he devours books at a frightening speed, on the plus side I rarely buy books but my book shelves are starting to groan a little!

I used the sketch from Inky Paws and started by colouring Newton in a nice ginger colour with stripes then fussy cut him out.  I wanted to use text from a book and I happen to have a book called The No. 2 Cat Detective Agency and in the back is a preview of the next book so I was a bit brutal and ripped out one of the preview pages making sure I had the word cat/kittens and Much Purring on show.

I used Lawn Fawn sentiments and BoBunny Urban stamps to create the ink splodges.

I just couldn't resist adding some Glossy Accents to his glasses for a fun touch.

I'm going to pop along to The Library challenge, the theme this time is Breakfast at Tiffany's.  Holly has a cat whose nameless as she doesn't think anyone has the right to own him and he's ginger so Newton is being typecast as Cat the Nameless Cat for this purpose.  Also, Paul Varjak is a writer so this card fits the brief pretty well.  Stopping by for a few other challenges too that have our 'man cubs' as themes ;)

Bee Happy

A quick card to share today for a few challenges, strange how sometimes you make a card and it seems to fit into oodles of challenge themes!

As bees go, I'm not a huge fan but this Dovecraft one caught my eye and its fairly big considering he's sitting on a 7x5 card base.  A little thankful they don't actually come in this size, could you imagine?

I used a Memory Box hexagon die as the base, die cut from an already inked background in Wild Honey.  The sentiment is washi tape adhered to smooth cardstock.

As for the bee, he was stamped in Versafine and then again in Versamark and clear heat embossed.  Added a dash of yellow alcohol marker and a Wink then fussy cut him out and popped him on foam tape and voila... Bee Happy.

Another Year Flies By

The cue card at CASology this week is THRILL.  The first thing that came to mind was hot air balloons as living in Staffordshire we see a lot during the Summer, they take off from Shrugborough which is a hop, skip and a jump away from me.

It also holds sweet memories as I used to call the boys and we'd stand in the garden watching and waving, always thinking it must be such a thrill to be soaring with the birds.

The balloons and clouds are from Memory Box and I'd already decided I wanted to colour them with bright happy colours using alcohol markers.  I have no idea where the birthday sentiment stamp came from but it fits the card nicely.

My boys are grown up now but I shall still stand and watch the thrill of hot air ballooning.

Best Fishes

Yay... I'm ahead of the game and made a start on Father's Day cards.  This one is for my Father-in-Law who loves his aquarium and all the beautiful fish swimming about in it.

I started yesterday by making an inky background for the sea using Distress Inks and Glimmer Mists with salt and left to dry naturally overnight as I soaked the cardstock.  I also sat colouring and fussy cutting all the elements out ready to assemble.

Once the background was fully dry I clear embossed it and over heated it so the powder bubbled giving a shiny watery look.  After that it was just a case of putting it all together, adding a little bit of waterfall Stickles to the bubbles and white embossing the sentiment.

Floral Happy Birthday

I love flowers on cards and there are few challenges featuring blooms/nature or floral bouquets this week and I couldn't resist taking part.

I'm currently in my pastel/Spring phase so apologies for lots of pinks etc

I used Altenew Wild Hibiscus stamps, heat embossed in white, watercoloured with Gansai Tambi and fussy cut.  The leaves are a Tim Holtz die and also watercoloured.  I also used Memory Box Chloe stem, die cut from linen cardstock to add interest.  For the hexagon I first used Weathered Wood Distress Ink to create the wood grain then just die cut the shape.

I was stumped for ages trying to find a sentiment, then I remembered my old box of metal embellishments I used for my scrapbooks.  After finally finding said box, I was delighted that they really suited the card and that was it... done and dusted.

Wishing you Oceans of Joy!

Quickly stopping by to share a card made specifically for the Fusion challenge, this time I've fused both the photo inspiration of the marine with the sketch.

I used the seahorse layering stamp from Hero Arts and the sentiment.  I made the life buoy myself from circle dies, wound a bit of twine around and hey presto.  The bubbles started life as a blank piece of white cardstock, lightly spritzed with Glimmer Mist in Sapphire and die cut.

The die has all the bubbles attached in one single piece so I did a bit of snipping and randomly placed on the piece of burlap to finish the card.

I do think seahorses are rather magical :)

With Love

Earlier in the week I happened to catch the mood board at Use Your Stuff and its so pretty it was hard to not feel inspired by it.

I really wanted to go all vintage but time was against me so I settled on an image I'd coloured earlier this year and kept the card pretty simple.  The image is from Tim Holtz Sketchy Flowers coloured with alcohol markers.  The sentiment is from Stamping All Day and inked with pearlescent gold.
